A Cypriot white painted ware Oinochoe, Cypro-Archaic, 750-475 BC
An Oinochoe with prophylactic bird's eye motifs on either side of the trefoil lip, (these eyes were thought to defend or protect from disease or infection,) and a small swastika on the shoulder, the handle with horizontal bands. Swastikas were considered to be good luck symbols, representing sun, fire, or continuing creation, 13 cms
Condition - Good condition with minor wear; small chip to back of neck, intact. No restoration or repair.
Provenance: Part of a Cypriot private collection brought to the UK in 1951.
